Top Beaches Near Lisbon

Many people from the UK take flights to Lisbon each summer. Most have their eyes set on the top beaches near Lisbon. Here is a list of the top beaches near Lisbon Portugal.

Ribeira das Ilhas

Famous for world class waves, Ribeira das Ilhas is one of Europe’s best surfing destinations. This beach is just outside the village of Ericeira. You can reach it via a bus ride from Lisbon’s Grande Campo terminal.

Praia da Torre

Praia da Torre sits beneath São Julião da Barra Fort. The small beach is located on an estuary just east of Carcavelos beach. There is also a large ocean pool equipped with diving boards. This combined with the weaker waves and currents makes this beach perfect for your kids.

Sesimbra

This small fishing village lies 20 miles outside of Lisbon. The town is overlooked by an old Moorish castle. Its protected bay, pristine waters, and seafood restaurants make this beach a great place to unwind from the day.

Tamariz

30 minutes outside Lisbon Portugal, Tamariz is famous for its waterfront castle. The castle may be owned by the royal family of Monaco, but you don’t have to be royalty to enjoy this beach. In fact, this beach gets very crowded during the summer months. Many bars there stay open until the early hours making this a perfect party hot-spot for young travelers.

Morena

Known as the summer mecca of Lisbon Portugal, Morena is located in Caparica. It is only a 5-minute walk from town, making it easy to access bars, cafes, restaurants, and public transportation. During the summer, an open-air train passes through the many beaches on the coast. All you have to do is ring the bell when you want to stop at Morena. This is one of the more convenient beaches to get to if you are staying at one of the many hotels in Lisbon. People are active here both day and night, so be ready to stay up on this beach.

Adraga

Though no longer a secret, Adraga beach is not as crowded as the other beaches around. This is because Adraga is hard to reach by public transportation, but those who do make the trek will be rewarded with turquoise waters, towering cliffs, and a secluded beach.

Praia de Carcavelos

Praia de Carcavelos is one of the top beaches near Lisbon, as it is only a 15-minute walk from the railway station. The beach stretches for about 2km! This beach is perfect if you’re just arriving off one of the many flights to Lisbon, or if you’re staying at one of the hotels in Lisbon. Whether you’re a surfer or a sunbather, this beach has something for you.

Meco

To reach Meco, first, you must take a bus to Sesimbra from Lisbon’s Praça de Espanha terminal. After getting off at Santana you must take 1 of the 8 buses that run daily to Meco village. This time-consuming trip deters many tourists from traveling here, making this one of the most isolated beaches just outside Lisbon Portugal. Enjoy fine dining in town, or watch the sun go down on shore. Just be sure to ask for the time your bus returns.

Guincho

Though this beach isn’t the safest for swimmers, it is one of the best places in Europe for wind and regular surfing alike. Imagine a golden beach enclosed by seaside cliffs, and giant waves crashing onto shore, and you’ve got Guincho. But you don’t have to be an adrenaline junky to enjoy the view.

Portinho da Arrabida

To reach this beach you’re gonna need your own car. After traversing down the narrow roads you will be greeted by peaceful clear waters and a golden shore. The beach here is ideal for diving, swimming, or just for relaxing on.
